Monday we demonstrated how to search the internet for free fonts and I introduced you to some free websites for text ideas Dafont , Urban Fonts and 1001 Free Fonts . Tuesday we walked you through downloading and uncompressing the file. Wednesday, it was how to install the font on your computer. Yesterday we uploaded the font into CadworxLIVE. The last step is to put all of our efforts to work and create an eye catching design using this new font.
Step 5 – Create and Eye Catching Heat Transfer
I used the Patriot font that we uploaded and cadworxlive.com to create the design below.
Notice, I did not add any clip art or effects to this design. This font was so decorative on its own that it did not require more to make it eye catching. I did cut the lettering out of 2 different materials in order to create some definition and texture in the graphic.
The red outline is cut from SPECTRA® Alloy that is sold by Imprintables Warehouse. There are 10 colors available; this heat trasnfer vinyl will give your graphic a metallic look. It cuts and weeds very easy on a vinyl cutter and has a sticky carrier in the event that you make an error.
The inside of the lettering (stripes and stars) was cut with a vinyl cutter from CAD-CUT® Thermo-FLOCK®. I chose the flock material because it gives the transfer a soft 3 dimensional look.
When it come to the heat application and combining heat transfer medias that can be a little tricky. The CAD-CUT® Thermo-FLOCK® applies at a temperature of 350°; the SPECTRA® Alloy applies at 300°. I know that the flock will hold up to the application of the alloy so I apply the flock first and the alloy second.
I hope that this blog series has been beneficial and you have learned some tips. Look for Monday’s blog regarding “throw shirts” for home football games. If you have not subscribed to the blog be sure to do so. We have some exciting topics to present regarding back to school and homecoming t shirts.
